Alijah Vera-Tucker’s move to New England was supposed to give the Patriots a proven interior lineman on a three-year, $42 million deal.

Instead, the first big update on his Patriots tenure is the one that always seemed possible: he is back on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, and he will miss at least four weeks.

For Patriots fans, that turns a roster addition into an availability issue almost immediately. For Jets fans, it is the kind of news that lands with instant recognition.

Vera-Tucker left the game against the Jets in the second quarter with the hamstring injury and did not return. Before that exit, he had played every snap at left guard. The injury now puts him on IR in four of the last five seasons, a stretch that has followed him from New York to New England.

That history is hard to ignore. During his Jets tenure, Vera-Tucker played in just 43 of 85 possible games, exactly 50 percent. He also missed the entire 2025 season after tearing his triceps, and his injury résumé with the Jets included two torn triceps and a torn Achilles tendon.

The recent pattern is even more jarring when set against the last two seasons before this latest setback. Vera-Tucker played only 12 games combined in 2022 and 2023, then sat out all of 2025. Now the Patriots are dealing with another interruption after investing in him as part of their offensive line.

That is the tension in this update: the Patriots are already down a lineman they expected to have, and Jets fans are looking at the same familiar problem from the other side. The player they watched battle injuries in New York is now giving New England the same kind of uncertainty.
