Week 1 injury reports rarely tell the whole story, but they do reveal which teams are walking into Sunday with uncertainty and which ones are getting cleaner looks at kickoff. For the Packers, Texans and Ravens, the first reports of the season already show three different kinds of problems: Green Bay has a cluster of limited players, Houston is still sorting through its opener against Buffalo, and Baltimore is trying to balance a mostly encouraging report with a few notable names still on the practice sheet.
The Ravens may have the cleanest headline of the three. Baltimore’s first injury report for its season-opening showdown listed every player on the 53-man roster as available, a strong start for a team that has spent recent seasons dealing with more complicated Week 1 health questions. Even so, the report was not spotless: four Ravens were limited, including wide receiver Zay Flowers.
Flowers has been working through a minor hamstring injury since joint practices with the Minnesota Vikings on Aug. 19-20, and the Ravens have been cautious in bringing him back. That approach has kept him from being rushed into practice too soon, but it also leaves a small layer of uncertainty around how effective he can be if he plays. He is expected to play, though the hamstring issue could affect his performance.
Baltimore’s report also includes two other names worth watching. Nnamdi Madubuike has been limited while dealing with a neck issue, and Teddye Buchanan is still working back from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 15. Those are different kinds of concerns: one is a current injury that has kept Madubuike out since Week 2, while the other is a return from a major knee injury that makes Buchanan’s Week 1 status less certain.
That distinction matters because the NFL’s injury process keeps tightening as the week goes on. Teams must issue three injury reports during the week, and the final one comes with game designations that make the picture clearer before kickoff. Until then, a player listed as limited can still leave coaches and fans waiting for the final answer.
Green Bay’s report is less clean. The Packers listed Aaron Banks, Barryn Sorrell, Devonte Wyatt, Jordan Morgan and Jacob Thomas as limited, while Zach Bako-Bewele is questionable with a knee injury. That is a different kind of Week 1 uncertainty than Baltimore’s: not one headline player, but several bodies on the report, including multiple linemen and defenders whose availability could shape how the Packers line up against Minnesota.
The Texans, meanwhile, enter their matchup with Buffalo in a separate but equally important spot on the Week 1 injury map. Houston’s opener against the Bills comes with its own set of updates, and the league-wide picture shows how quickly injury reports can change the feel of a matchup before the first snap. In the same round of reports, Browns coach Todd Monken said Collins is “good to go” for the season opener, another reminder that one team’s relief can sit right next to another team’s uncertainty.
That is what makes the first week of the season so revealing. Baltimore can point to a roster that was fully available on the first report, even with several players limited. Green Bay is already managing a longer list of question marks. Houston is still in the middle of its own Week 1 evaluation against Buffalo. The names will keep moving through the week, but the early reports have already separated the teams into different levels of readiness before the season even begins.
