Breece Hall’s quad injury does more than thin the Jets’ backfield. It also puts Isaiah Davis in position to go from special-teams duty to a real offensive role at the same moment New York is looking for answers in a run game that has already gone quiet.

Hall is listed as week-to-week and is likely to miss Week 4 against the Chicago Bears. He did not participate in practice on Sept. 30, and the Jets are preparing as if they will have to move forward without him.

That matters because the ground game has not been carrying the offense even with Hall available. Over the last two weeks, the Jets have averaged just 3.6 yards per carry with Hall in the lineup. Their rushing totals have also fallen sharply: 152 yards in Week 1, then 67 in Week 2 and 58 in Week 3.

So the injury does not create a clean reset. It adds another layer to a problem that was already there.

With Hall out, Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis are expected to lead the backfield. Davis, in particular, is the name to watch. He has yet to play an offensive snap this season, with all of his game action coming on special teams. Now he is expected to step in as the No. 2 back behind Allen.

That would be a notable jump for a player who has been described as a capable third-down back with pass-catching upside and speed. The question is not just whether Davis can handle more snaps. It is whether the Jets use his expanded role as part of a broader shift in how they attack Chicago.

The Bears matchup offers that possibility. The Jets’ run game is already under pressure, and the interior offensive line has struggled over the last two weeks. Dylan Parham is also dealing with a knee injury, and he did not practice on Sept. 30, adding another complication to the group that has to create space for the backs.

That leaves the Jets with a narrow path: replace Hall’s workload while also trying to find a cleaner version of the run game than the one they have shown through three weeks. Davis may be part of that answer, but the bigger question is whether his promotion is just a depth-chart adjustment or the start of a more deliberate plan to lean on a specific matchup against Chicago.

For now, the setup is clear. Hall is likely out. Allen and Davis are next up. And the Jets are heading into Week 4 with both a personnel problem and a chance to see whether a targeted rushing plan can change the shape of their offense.
