The Eagles made two Tuesday roster moves that point in different directions but land on the same question: what happens to Philadelphia’s offensive line when Landon Dickerson is out?
Dickerson was placed on injured reserve, which means he will miss at least the next four weeks. In the same announcement, the Eagles signed wide receiver Britain Covey.
On paper, the moves are straightforward. In practice, the Dickerson transaction changes the shape of the line in a way the Eagles have already begun to describe themselves: the unit will lean on youth.
That is a notable turn for a group that has depended on Dickerson as one of its core interior pieces since the Eagles selected him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. His absence removes a veteran presence from a line that now has to sort through its options before the regular season settles in.
Offensive coordinator Sean Mannion said the Eagles will evaluate all of their options to field the best offensive line group, and he pointed to the flexibility already built into the room.
“We have a lot of guys on our offensive line with a lot of position flexibility, versatility,” Mannion said.
That flexibility matters because the Eagles have been developing younger linemen throughout training camp and the preseason. Drew Kendall, Willie Lampkin and Micah Morris are among the players now available to help absorb the loss.
Mannion was direct about what comes next.
The Eagles’ offensive line, he said, will “lean on youth” because of Dickerson’s absence, and the depth the team accumulated over the summer will be tested in the regular season.
That leaves Philadelphia with a clear short-term challenge: replacing a guard who has become a fixture on the interior while asking younger players to handle more of the load. The Eagles did not frame the Covey signing as a direct answer to the line issue, but the roster move came alongside a change that forces the offensive front to adjust immediately.
For now, the next four weeks will show how much the Eagles can ask from the younger linemen they have been preparing, and how much of Dickerson’s role can be redistributed through the position flexibility Mannion described.
