Davante Adams’ hamstring injury is not landing in a vacuum. The Rams are already 2-4, already last in the NFC West, and already staring at a roster that has too many problems to treat this as just one more bad break.

Coach Sean McVay told reporters Monday that the six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver ruptured his hamstring and will miss 6 to 10 weeks. That timeline takes Adams out of the lineup for a stretch that could easily overlap with the point where the Rams have to decide whether to keep pushing forward or start reshaping the roster before the Nov. 10 trade deadline.

The Rams’ record is the first thing that makes the injury feel bigger. They are 2-4 after their loss to the Cardinals, and their 0-2 mark against NFC West opponents has left them in the basement of the division. The start has also drawn comparisons to their 2022 season, when injuries helped derail what had looked like a far more promising year.

This time, the problems are showing up in several places at once.

The pass rush has been one of the clearest examples. The Rams did not record a sack in Week 6, the fourth time this season they have finished a game with one sack or none. Byron Young has been the exception, with 3.5 sacks and 29 total pressures, ranking sixth among 115 edge defenders. But the rest of the rotation has not matched that production, and the team’s overall numbers reflect it: the Rams are 24th in pressure rate, 13th in hurry rate and 23rd in knockdown percentage.

On offense, the frustration is different but just as visible. Kyren Williams has produced 393 rushing yards on 4.9 yards per carry and 217 receiving yards this season, and he averaged five yards per carry in Week 6. The Rams are also averaging 4.6 yards per carry as a team, which ranks eighth in the NFL. Even so, the run game has not been used in a way that matches those numbers, and the offense has leaned heavily on Matthew Stafford, who has thrown 252 passes in six games, the most in the league.

The ball security issues have added to the strain. The Rams have turned it over nine times, an average of 1.5 giveaways per game.

There are also roster questions beyond Adams. Terrance Ferguson is on injured reserve but is eligible to return in Week 8. Fiske has 15 total pressures, but no sacks and just one tackle for loss. The Rams’ payroll is strained, and next offseason is expected to bring a free-agent exodus. Even the details around possible roster moves suggest flexibility: the dead cap hit if Landman is released in 2028 is just $125,000.

That is why Adams’ injury matters beyond the medical update itself. The Rams are not dealing with one isolated absence. They are dealing with a 2-4 start, a pass rush that keeps disappearing outside Young, offensive frustration around how Williams is being used, and a deadline that could force the front office to choose between holding the group together or moving pieces.

If the Rams do not turn things around, that choice may come sooner than they want.
