Jayden Daniels is cleared to play Sunday against the New York Giants, and Washington is saying there will be no restrictions on him.

That is the easy part.

The harder part is that Daniels is still doing it with a black brace on his left elbow, a reminder that the injury from Week 2 is not gone even if the game-status language sounds clean. Offensive coordinator David Blough put it plainly when asked whether Washington had to adjust for the elbow: “He’s full go.”

Daniels will wear the large brace to protect the elbow after dislocating it in Week 2, and he will need to keep wearing it the rest of the season. The brace leaves his elbow slightly bent, which makes the return feel less like a reset and more like a managed return to the field.

Washington has already lived through the consequences of that injury. Daniels missed two games because of the non-throwing elbow issue, then returned to practice as a full participant Wednesday and was expected to be one all week with the idea that he would start against New York. He was also a limited participant in Week 4 before getting back to full work this week.

Daniels said the brace won’t limit him when handing off or taking snaps from center, and he has been getting used to a different brace than the one he wore last season. He also decided against surgery, choosing the protective brace instead as he works to avoid another dislocation.

The practical question for Washington is not whether Daniels is active — he is — but how much of the injury management remains part of the week-to-week routine even when the team says there are no limitations. Daniels has talked since training camp about being smarter when running in games, and that caution now sits alongside the expectation that he’ll be on the field Sunday.

For the Commanders, that is the balance heading into the Giants game: Daniels is available, he is practicing, and he is being described as “full go.” The brace, though, is still there.
